TEMECULA VALLEY FILM AND MUSIC SOCIETY TO SCREEN
THE DOCUMENTARY “COWTOWN BALLROOM: SWEET JESUS”

A look at Old Town Temecula in the ‘60s and a nostalgic trip down music heritage lane
on tap at special screening

Temecula, CA – April 9, 2010 – Join The Temecula Valley Film & Music Society the fourth Thursday of every month for special screenings and musical performances at 6:00 pm at the Temecula Public Library, located at 30600 Pauba Road in Temecula. COWTOWN BALLROOM: SWEET JESUS will screen on Thursday, April 22.

COWTOWN BALLROOM: SWEET JESUS is a documentary film about Cowtown Ballroom, a legendary concert venue in Kansas City, Missouri. It opened July 16, 1971 and closed September 16, 1974, but in its short life span established an incredible musical heritage. The hall itself was a former jazz club named the El Torreon Ballroom, which opened in 1927. It was home to the likes of Cab Calloway, Count Basie, and even Red Skelton. In the summer of 1971, Cowtown Ballroom opened with a concert by The Flying Burrito Brothers. During the next three years it featured an eclectic mix of musicians including Frank Zappa, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Van Morrison, B.B. King and Linda Ronstadt.

The evening will also include a sneak peek of a television show that was filmed in Old Town Temecula in 1967. This is an introduction to a programming series at the Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival September 15-19, 2010, which will show films shot on location in Temecula through the years.

Robert Rankin Walker, singer/guitarist, former band member of “Caffeine” and owner of Hey Day Records will provide live entertainment. Light refreshments will be served.

This is a free event for all Film and Music Society Members, there is a $5 charge for all non-members. Please RSVP to this event by calling (951) 699-5514 or email festival@tviff.com.
