"Conversations with Dorian Harewood: From Broadway to Blackjack''

Dorian Harewood has performed before Broadway theater audiences as well as live theater audiences across the country, having starred in the Tony Award winning musicals “Kiss of the Spider Woman” with Chita Rivera, “Two Gentlemen of Verona”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Over Here” with John Travolta, “The Pajama Game”, “Purlie”, at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and “Crumbs From The Table Of Joy”, for which he won his third NAACP Image Award. He has also starred in the Broadway plays “Streamers”, directed by Mike Nichols, “Don't Call Back”, “The Mighty Gents” with Morgan Freeman and the fateful musical “Miss Moffat”, opposite the late great Bette Davis, the woman responsible for his decision to become an actor.

Mr. Harewood has performed with Gladys Knight, toured with the Four Tops and is currently appearing in the feature film "Assault On Precinct 13", starring Laurence Fishburne and Ethan Hawke. He has just released a revolutionary new instructional video, "Strictly Blackjack", which teaches the strategies necessary to win consistently at the game of blackjack.
In the world of television, Dorian Harewood holds the unique distinction of having portrayed the two largest roles in the most widely seen network AND non-network mini-series in the history of television! In the role of Simon Haley (father of author Alex Haley) in “Roots: the Next Generations”, he aged from 17 to 70 years old, creating the largest role in the combined 26 hours of “Roots” I and II. And he is probably best known for his award-winning portrayal of 1936 Olympic champion and American hero Jesse Owens, in “The Jesse Owens Story”.

HOW TO GET A MOVIE PRODUCED!

Producer Zachary Feuer will talk about how to find a great story and break down the walls of Hollywood to get it made. Zachary Feuer is an independent producer who has several projects in development with up and coming writers/directors and established talent. He has worked in the motion picture business for the last fifteen years as an executive and producer developing projects with such companies as Columbia, Dreamworks, New Line, Nickelodeon Movies, Marvel Studios, Paramount, Spyglass, Universal and Warner Bros.

He and the director Phil Alden Robinson, (SUM OF ALL FEARS, FIELD OF DREAMS), recently produced ALL THE QUEENS MEN, (Warner Home Video), a WW11 comedy starring Eddie Izzard and Matt LeBlanc, which was released in 2002 by Strand Releasing. He is currently prepping the Marvel Comic MORT THE DEAD TEENAGER for Marvel Studios starring Dax Shepard and Jessica Simpson.

Formerly President of Production for the Sonnenfeld Company, Feuer and the director Barry Sonnenfeld, (MEN IN BLACK 1 & 2, GET SHORTY, ADDAM'S FAMILY MOVIES), created a new production company with an exclusive deal at the Walt Disney Company. They continue to develop a number of projects under the Disney, Touchstone, and Miramax banners.

As Senior Vice President for the Frederick Pierce Company, Feuer conceived, developed and packaged the Columbia release, MONEY TRAIN, written by Doug Richardson, and directed by Joe Ruben, starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. He also developed and produced the Emmy award-winning movie for HBO, THE POSITIVELY TRUE ADVENTURES OF THE ALLEGED TEXAS CHEERLEADER-MURDERING MOM, written by Jane Anderson, and directed by Michael Ritchie, starring Holly Hunter and Beau Bridges.
As Vice-President for the Gordon Company, (Lawrence Gordon), Feuer helped supervise feature development and production of FIELD OF DREAMS, DIE HARD 1 & 2, K-9, and FAMILY BUSINESS.

"BEFORE AND AFTER - HOLLYWOOD MAKE UP SECRETS, with Christina Smith

The role of the Make Up Artist is crucial to the success of any movie. Christina Smith whose credits include Wes Craven's RED EYE, K-19 THE WIDOWMAKER, LIFE AS A HOUSE, FREAKY FRIDAY, THE FLINTSTONES, CASPAR, SCHINDLER'S LIST (for which she received an Academy Award and BAFTA nomination ), JURASSIC PARK, STEEL MAGNOLIAS,BLACK RAIN and HOOK (for which she also received an Oscar nomination) has worked with such artists as Lindsay Lohan, Gena Rowlands, Liam Neeson, Kevin Kline, Julia Roberts, Robin Williams, Gwyneth Paltrow and Dustin Hoffman. She will discuss and illustrate the fascinating world of the Make Up Artist.

"SHORT FILMS FOR THE Y GENERATION

Director Nancy Stein will show her short film, STEALING INNOCENCE which has numerous awards worldwide including the most prestigious Silver Gryphon Award at the Giffoni Film Festival in Italy. The Giffoni Film Festival consists of over 1,300 young jurors from all over the world between the ages 6 and 18 years old who have the task of judging and awarding prizes to their favorite films. STEALING INNOCENCE was awarded Favorite Short Film.

Nancy Stein will host an hour of short films geared for teens, including the award winning animated short “BID 'EM IN' by Neal Sopata and talk about her work as a Director
WOMEN CINEMATOGRAPHERS Saturday, Sept. 17, 3:30pm, Workshop/Screening Room 3A showcase of films honoring the work of women cinematographers and introducing the recently founded International Alliance of Women Cinematographers which was created to support and showcase the work of women cinematographers worldwide.

Hosted by cinematographer Lucia Diaz, films will be screened and women DP's will talk about their work on such films as RED ROSES AND PETROL, the multi award winning heart warming family drama directed by Tamar Simon Hoffs and starring Malcolm McDowell, and will showcase the work of renowned women cinematographer, Nancy Schreiber A.S.C. Following the screening, director Hoffs will take part in a Q and A with Lucia Diaz, Co-Founder of the International Alliance of Women Cinematographers.

"THE ROLE OF THE MUSIC SUPERVISOR

From soup to nuts, how to make the music in your film fantastic! From the legal, economic, and creative point of view, renowned Hollywood Music Supervisor, Maureen Crowe will talk about this crucial role of the Music Supervisor in Film. She will walk you through all the avenues and dead ends in getting the best music for your film and your budget. Ms. Crowe has worked on indie films such as SAVED, CLERKS, TRUE ROMANCE as well as big budget movies like POSEIDON (currently in production and featuring Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas), Academy award winning CHICAGO, WAYNE'S WORLD and THE BODYGUARD.

WRITING YOUR VISION, Presented by David Cole

Explore creative ways to make screenplays more vibrant and desirable to independent producers, actors and studio executives. Mr. Cole addresses emotional issues like overcoming writer's block, as well as technical concerns such as story structure and character development. Participants will be inspired to get started on new scripts and will glean insight into what it takes to add “that little something extra” to earlier drafts. This will be a fun, interactive session addressing real world writers' issues.

Writer-Producer David A. Cole is President and CEO of Visionary Dreamscapes Entertainment, Inc. and producer of the feature length romantic comedy, Just Add Love, starring Wendie Malick (“Just Shoot Me”) and Richard Eden (“Robocop, the series”). He holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from Chapman University's School of Film and Television, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater from the University of California, Santa Cruz and has spent twenty years as a professional business consultant in Los Angeles. From 2000-2003 he served as Executive Consultant to the American Film Institute, overseeing the operational planning and development of AFI's East Coast headquarters, the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, in Silver Spring, MD. David has lectured on screenwriting and independent filmmaking at universities and film festivals around the world including Sydney, Brussels and the Slamdance Film Festival in Utah, among many others.

DISCOVERING AMERICA'S SONGBOOK, WITH JIM JIMIRRO

Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Ira Gershwin, Frank Sinatra, Mercer and Hammerstein --these are just but a few of great music legends that musical theater buff, Jim Jimirro will discuss and share with festival attendees his vibrant and informed perspective on the Great American Songbook. Join and enjoy an enthralling and wildly entertaining 90 minutes of facts, behind the scenes anecdotes and music selections from his extensive record collection. Q&A follows.

Jim Jimirro, creator and founding President of The Disney Channel and Walt Disney Home Video, is currently Chairman of the Board of National Lampoon. The venerated comedy franchise is active in all areas of entertainment, including motion pictures, television, video and publishing.

As founding President of The Disney Channel, Mr. Jimirro was responsible for the conception, development and launching of the fastest-growing pay service in history. Under Mr. Jimirro's guidance, The Disney Channel introduced many innovations, such as interactive programming and The Disney Channel Magazine. From 1979 to 1985, Mr. Jimirro was President of Walt Disney Home Video and during this period was a pioneer in the industry. He introduced a number of innovations in the marketing of home video, among them the world's first home video direct marketing campaigns.

Mr. Jimirro is a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars), and serves on the Board of Visitors for the College of Communications at Penn State. He is a Director Emeritus of the Westwood Village Business Improvement District, and Theatre LA. He is listed in Who's Who in America.

Mr. Jimirro is the author of numerous articles on media and its relationship to society. He culminated his interest in this subject in 2003 when he established, at Penn State, The Jimirro Institute for the Study of Media Influence. The Center explores the role of the media in influencing, for example, public opinion, buying habits and even voting patterns. Mr. Jimirro is active in a number of enterprises involving the Great American Songbook, the music of Porter, Rodgers and Berlin, et al. He conducts a popular lecture series on this music at the Beverly Hills Public Library and at other venues worldwide. This series, and its impact on those who attend, is the subject of a new documentary currently in production.

IT'S ALL IN THE COSTUME with Maria Schicker

For those interested in the important role played by the Costume Designer in filmmaking, EMMY and CDG nominated costume designer Maria Schicker, working on such varied projects as the Paramount action thriller EXTREME OPS, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS and HITLER: THE RISE OF EVIL starring Robert Carlyle, Peter O'Toole and Liev Schreiber, will talk about her craft. A fashion designer in her own right and currently part of the renowned Academy of Motion Picture Arts traveling Costume Exhibit, she will illustrate and discuss the key role played by the Costume Designer.

WHAT A GIRL WANTS, with Director Dennie Gordon.

Award winning Director Dennie Gordon will talk about making this entertaining Warner Bros. romantic comedy starring Amanda Bynes and Colin Firth on location in the stately homes of England and the wilds of Morocco. Ms. Gordon will talk about shooting on location and casting an international movie and what she looks for in actors when she is casting.
Oliver James, the teen British male lead will attend.

THE SAGE HUNTER - THE US PREMIERE
This unique family feature about a man who discovers his heritage and in doing so, saves his tribal lands, stars indigenous Taiwanese Tribal Leader Sakinu whose life story is the source of the film's story. Traveling to the USA for the first time, Sakinu will be present at the screening to talk about making the film and his unique world view. Producer Cindy Shyu will discuss shooting under difficult conditions in the remote mountains of Taiwan's native lands.

Today, mostly regarded as disco camp, Saturday Night Fever should rank as one of the great American films. John Travolta seized his moment in his breakout starring role as a young American dreamer who wants something more from life. A sensation on the disco dance floor, he follows his instincts and his feet - to dance, dance, and dance his way up life's ladder. The movie may be held responsible for hurling the Bee Gees into merciless radio rotation, but Saturday Night Fever pulsates to their strident beat. Single-handedly, the success of SNF kept the all-but-dead Hollywood musical dance format alive for at least one more decade.

Ken is a strong-minded, passionate man totally dedicated to his art, and he decides he does not want to go on with the compromised, highly dependent life that his doctors, his girlfriend Pat (Janet Eilber), and others urge on him. He breaks up with Pat and fights to be released from the hospital, to gain control of his life in order to stop the care that keeps him alive and unhappy. His antagonist is the hospital's medical director Dr. Emerson
